Assignments
This section contains the assignments for English 121. Because the details of assignments sometimes change during a semester, these online assignment descriptions are the authoritative versions. The online versions will not shift without notice, however; any changes will be announced by email to the class.
The grade weights for the class are as follows: Classwork document and class citizenship: 30% Note: the final grade for each paper will come from the revised version in the portfolio. The four major assignments for the class will be graded on a conventional grade scale. The regular weekly assignments will be graded as follows. Grading for regular, smaller assignments in the classwork document: Submissions for these assignments will earn full credit if they respond fully to the prompt (meaning they do what the assignment asks them to do) and are submitted on time. The work will earn 60% of full credit for any reasonable submission in response to the assignment, 20% for responding fully to the prompt, and 20% for timely submission. The credit for "responding fully" can be earned late; if I see anything missing from a submission, I will make a comment in my grading that points out what needs to be added for the student to receive that credit. Because they are more substantial, larger writing assignments (the Close Reading, the Source Analysis, and the Paper Prospectuses) will count twice as much as other daily assignments in the grading. The classwork documents will be graded by taking the percentage of points earned and applying a conventional grade scale:
